Shloime Gertner - New Album-Imagine

Though it's been a little over a year since British singer Shloime Gertner released his last hit album Vehiskin, prepare yourself for the next step in Jewish music evolution with Shloime Gertner: Imagine. For the first time in years, a mainstream Jewish album will feature not 2 or 3 but 4 uniquely different and creative English songs including the astounding title track written by world renown composer Yossi Green. Sameach Music: Releasing Star Studded Album

As Chaim points out Sameach Music is getting ready to release an All-Star Album entitled "The 8th Note":

Maybe they should just call it Yossi & Yossi? The idea for this CD is fantastic but I would have preferred to see more than one composer on this album. I love Y. Green's compositions and he's truly gifted but as of late he doesn't put out as many blockbusters as he used to.

Jewish Music Concert: Lipa and Gertner

The cats out of the bag thanks to Chaim: A Concert named the The Big Event will feature Lipa and Shloime Gertner who will perform together at the Wamu Theater at MSG with Yisroel Lamm at the helm. The sucess of this concert will be most important to Sheya Medlowitz who is producing this mega event. Needless to say this concert will be a separate seating event. Lipa is certainly one of the bigger names in Jewish music and it's interesting to see Shloime Gertner at his side. He does appeal to the same crowd but his music is also in the same vein. It seems a bit of a double dose but perhaps that's what the producer was looking for.

NEW Jewish Music Review: Shloime Gertner: Nisim

As I mentioned there is a new comer to the Jewish Music scene and he brings some Yiddish with him. The vocalist is namely Shloime Gertner. Here is my review of his debut album:

Nisim

The intro starts with a new age feel and moves into a disco with a lot of wah wah guitar.This is the title song and it usually means they think it’s the best song on the album.The tune is not bad but it doesn’t really bring anything new. The exception is the yiddish rap by Yossi Green which I don’t really care for. It’s missing an excitement element and perhaps live would sound better jazzed up.

Kodesh

This pretty ballad is dedicated to Shloime Gertner’s daughter who was born with disability challenges. There are some nice chord changes and some nice piano playing Yaron Gutfried.

This is techno style tune. The low part is really nice but the high part doesn’t really have a great hook or dynamic to continue the song. The low part seems to be the focus.

A fast swing intro with some echo guitar introduces this very cute yiddish song. Might remind you a bit of the intro to inspector gadget.The yiddish song moves into some english lyrics as well.

Another ballad not really all that memorable and nothing new here.

Rak Rak

This is middle eastern meets new age techno. It’ an interesting concept with some digital vocals. It then goes into a straight ahead sephardic feel hora.

Hashem Tivneh

Intro makes you think it’s a ballad but goes into a moderate oompah frielach. Shloime sounds really good here but the song lacks some excitement.

This moderately was arranged by the guitar player Avi Singolda and sounds more contemporary. To be honest it sounds like a couple of songs combined into one.

Another techno arrangement by Ilya Lishinsky. The song introduces some digitized vocals for Shloime that sound solid. The chord changes are a bit strange in my opinion.

A ballad faturing a mens choir arranged by Dudi Kalish. Nothing particular to note here.

Lefichach

Eli brings some fresh sound to this song rock frielach he composed.The dynamic however is not the best and it doesn’t really have a great hook.

Yehallelu

This moderate frielach is introduced with Singolda signature sound guitar.The song is going the route of shiru lamelech. It’s a nice tune and perhaps would grow on you after a while.

Shma Bni

A very contemporary intro with guitar and sax. It starts with a child soloist Chaim Stern.This song has a nice feel and when he sings with the child soloist they have some really nice harmonies. This hands down one of my favorite songs on the album.

Synopsis: Shloime played his vocals a bit safe and he has 13 songs when some should have been cut and leave in the better songs . The album ends on a very solid note but he would have benefited from some more memorable tunes.

Sameach Music has a New Podcast available for download and this one is over 60 minutes long. They play brand new music from Shloime Gertner's debut album.There is new music from Reb Shmuel Brazil and Abish Brodt. I will be doing a review on the latest release by Rabbi Brazil very soon. also on this podcast is a interview with Yossi Tyberg, the producer of Shloime Gertner's CD.

New Jewish Music Available This Week: Shloime Gertner

As I mentioned previously about a new comer to the Jewish Music scene namely Shloime Gertner. Sameach Music says his album is being released this week and they have a 7 minute clip available for download. Songs are composed by Yossi Green, Pinky Webber, Yossi Gurwitz, Sheya and Avrumi Berko & Eli Laufer. Arrangements are done by Ilya Lishinsky, Moshe Laufer, Leib Yaacov Rigler, Shay Bachar, Dudi Kalish, Eli Laufer & Heshy Ginsburg. If nothing else this album sounds very polished and the songs sound pretty solid and I think if any song will pushed it will be the title song. The many different composers and arrangers is an attempt to insure that the songs don't all sound the same.
