Texas: Census-Growing and could help GOP

I'm not a political buff but this news may be good news for Republicans: NY is growing at a very slow clip (3.2%) while states like Texas have added more than 3.9 million residents during the 2000s.This means Texas will perhaps get 3 more seats in the house while Ohio would lose two House seats. Losing one each would be Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts , Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. States gaining one seat would be: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, South Carolina, Utah and Washington. It's interesting to read older articles about the current census and perhaps in retrospect NY did better than expected? It would seem that the current census will give the GOP an edge that it so desperately needs to turn things around. One can only hope...

Torah Scroll Created In Dallas! Video

As a new resident of Texas I take pride in reading that Dallas has their first locally produced torah scroll! You can read more about this great achievement here. The scribe of this work is Rabbi Avraham Bloomenstiel of Congregation Toras Chaim and they decided to developed a website to introduce everyone to the world of the sofer (safrut). Here are some videos they developed:

Living as a Jew In Texas!!!

It's been a while since I last posted and some of you probably think I fell off the map. Truth be told I have sold my home and moved from Long Island, NY to a town (soon to be named) in Texas. As you can imagine this is a big step for me in more ways then you can imagine. I can happily tell you however, that so far it's lived up to it's expectations and more. My wife loves the school that are children are enrolled in and I'm looking forward to a slower paced and better quality of life . My kids have already made friends that live close by so we could not be more thrilled about it. People here are from all over but most interestingly enough there is a large percentage of former Monsey residents for seemingly no reason in particular, they gravitated here. Stay tuned for more...
