Sydney, Australia: Losing More Kosher Establishments

You can blame it on supply and demand but yet another kosher restaurant has closed in Sydney, Australia. The latest victim is the closure of Eliza's restaurant at Bondi's Hakoah Club. Eliza's was the only surviving formal dining experience after the Beaches restaurant closed in February 2006.

Eliza Ezekiel, who opened the restaurant in August 2006, told regular patron Rabbi Chaim Ingram that the main reason for the closure was due to lack of support from the community. Rabbi Ingram posted his response on the Kosher Consumers Association's website: "In my 15 years in this community, I have seen Torah, Chinuch and Yiddishkeit burgeoning. “One would have thought that with it would have come an enhanced adherence to kashrut. Our [lack of support for] kosher eateries remains a mystery."

You may recall a story I blogged about a teen beaten by a baseball bat in Melbourne, Australia several months ago. Unfortunately yet another incident has occured in the Balaclava section, a large Jewish neighborhood. This calls for some serious intervention and I hope the authorities will respond appropriately.

Melbourne Australia: Anti-Semitic Attacks!

Melbourne Australia has been the scene of a serious anti-semitic attack against an Jewish orthodox 17 yr old. The teenager was bashed by baseball bats by 3 men who vandalized a restaurant and punched one if it's dinners in the face.

Chaim Dovid and Yehuda Glantz: Touring in Australia

These two certainly make an interesting pair musically. Chaim Dovid and Yehuda Glantz are touring in Australia with performances in both Sydney and Melbourne. they certainly represent different sides of the Jewish Music spectrum: Chaim Dovid with his Carbelesque sound and Yehuda Glantz whose music tends to follow rock and Latino sounds. It would certainly make for an entertaining concert to say the least.
