Jewish Music Insider: Shwekey: Sibling Rivalry?

Are you ready for shwekey 2? What are you talking about, you ask? I have it on good authority that Shwekey's younger brother is going to be releasing his debut album with Keyboardist, Yitzy Schwartz (most recently produced Sruly Willger). The problem is what name is he going to use? If he tries to capitalize on his last name Yaakov is not going to be a happy camper. Time will tell what will transpire. I believe that both brothers were in Miami Boys Choir together and both did a short stint of about 6 months or so.

If this is the brother in Cleveland, my parents said he's incredible.

Why would his brother be upset?

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. G-d help us all.

Ezzie well it's because he doesn't want him using his name. If he uses his first name and his second name in the background that's probably cool. If he will be using his last name to propel his album, from a marketing standpoint he will be upset since it's a name he has built up in the Jewish Music biz. He also probably doesn't want people mixing up the albums they are buying. I'm not saying this would happen but it's interesting.

I was actually at an even that he performed at and they were not allowed to advertise the event with the last name spelled Shwekey. This spelling was only adapted by Yakov when he started performing. The family spells the name something like chuecky (not exactly but with a ch). I heard that Yakov's producer, Yochi Briskman made some deal of this sort.

Anon, I guess in the same way Yisroel Williger changed his last name from Wulliger which is his real spelling.

He preformed at the arutz sheva concert miracles 18...the brother sang mama rochel with abie rotenberg (and was introduced by their father) .
he looked and sounded just like yakov only fatter.

Choueka.

A rivalry would be asinine, but not surprising, considerng the nature of this woefully embarassing business. (aka, "the industree")
