BeechNut Baby Food Alert: Going Non Kosher

I recently received and email that raised my eyebrow as a parent of an infant and toddler. It seems that Beechnut, one of the largest supplier of kosher baby food, has been slowly pulling off their kosher supervision. Many products already do not bear the OU symbol such as:Stage 1 Peaches, Stage 1 Beans, Stage 2 Apple Cherry,State 2 Apple ango Kiwi, Stage 2 Mixed Cereal with Apple, Stage 2 Peach Oat Banana, Stage 2 Pear Raspberry,Stage 2 Rice Cereal with Apples Stage 2 Banana Strawberry and Stage 2 Apple Banana just to name a few (there are even more). There is reason to believe that eventually most or none of their products will have kosher supervision. As we know with Stella Dora these companies listen to the kosher consumer. My suggestion is to email the company (choose "Send Feedback to Beech Nut" option) and express your concern as a kosher consumer and parent. Please pass this post to anyone you know.

Yeah...this is not good. I am little relieved that my almost 12-month old daughter started eating real food and hasn't been eating baby food anymore.

I believe that I read an artice about this in the Jewish Press. BN will not be removing the ou from all their products. They will still have 43 products with the certification. Its just that they cannot justify the cost on some of their flavors. Keep in mind that the ingredients will not be changing only that they will no longer be "certified".

Anon,

Do you work for beachnut?

I just ran into this problem. Apple-Kiwi-Mango is no longer certified. Apple with Oatmeal is.
But you have to look out when you see the new packaging. I bought the AKM and had to return it.

Alas as you noted, Peach will no longer be Kosher. I better stock up on the old version.

I don't like constantly checking on which products are Kosher and which are not, escpecially if something is Kosher one day and the next day the same one is not. I just decided to go with bobo baby, it's frozen so more expensive but everything they make is Kosher, and as a bonus organic too.
