For those of you who are not familiar, I'm from a more yeshivish background. The neighborhood which I live in would be considered modern orthodox. Although the neighborhood is going more to the right than it was when it first originated i.e. there used to be plays the shul produce that were mixed...They no longer do etc..I come into shul today ( a bit late) and noticed it said on the wall today there was no Tachnun. I thought maybe there was some celebration i.e. bris, wedding and of course found out it was Yom Yerushaliam. They announced after Shemonah Esrai they would be reciting Hallel without a brocha. Being that saying hallel is not my custom, I had a small dilemma. I didn't want it to seem that I was being " poresh min hatzibur"(loosely translated:not following the rest of congregation). Then withstanding dawned on me..Since I was late and had to skip the Hallelkahs after ashrei I could go back and say those. It therefore didn't seem like I wasn't following everyone else. What a close call....
