I'm all for conserving energy. If I had the money I would seriously consider purchasing a hybrid car. I try not to use my electricity more than necessary. Here is one place conserving can slap you with a nice bill: your washing machine. I recently had a washing machine that refused to go into the spin cycle. This was because there is a safety switch which is located on the lid of the washing machine which broke. Tip: If you don't want this to happen to you always put the lid down very carefully. My appliance repairman told me that I should always leave the water capacity on the highest setting (unless I'm only putting in very few items in which case it should never be below the medium setting) because the washing machine will have to work harder to turn the clothes around. This may very well lead to the motor to break ( or if you have a belt they both may break). so much for conserving water.
