Putting an end to the ending the hostage siege of a school in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia.
Hundreds of children were freed, although several hundred were hurt and some died in the takeover by police. There were about 1500 hostages much more than the 354 originally thought to be inside. The terrorists comprised of both men and women, some wearing bomb belts - struck on Wednesday, the first day of the new school year in Russia.
It's also interesting to note: The BBC calls them "attackers" not terrorists as I did.
