Best of Kosher Food: Dietetic: Potato Chips!

Continuing on my journey to find the very best in Kosher Foodand snacks, I stumbled upon a great find. Baked potato chips by UTZ. I decided to take a look at the cheddar & Sour Cream variety. They were quite crisp and had excellent flavor. The fat content is just 3.5 grams per ounce (12 chips) at 120 calories is not bad at all. The most surprising thing was there are actually 2 grams of fiber per serving. On weight watchers that would be just 2 points per ounce. Enjoy!

Best in Kosher Food: Dietetic Part V: Desert!

As I have mentioned previously, one of the more difficult things to find when your are on a diet is a good tasting treat. Ultimately that's what keeps you on course toward your weight loss goal. Your body is going to crave sweets if it did before and if you can find a way to reward yourself without going overboard, that's always the best. I'm usually not a big fan as to how most of these low calorie, low fat snacks taste but this one is in top form. If your in the mood for ice cream but don't want the calories or the fat, may I suggest the 60 calorie, fat free fudgsicle. It has a very good creamy consistency and I must say, it tastes good too.

Diet Sodas: Make You Fat?

As we are in the diet mode, I look a bit more closely at low fat and low calorie foods. That's why when a study claiming that perhaps diet soda may lead to weight gain my antennas go up (no I'm not an alien). The study is far from perfect in my opinion. There are doctors that are trying to float the idea that diet sodas stimulate appetite and therefore lead to weight gain instead of loss. I'm not really buying that theory and even if it were true, I'm not sure ALL diet sodas do that. There is little question that water is better than diet drinks but perhaps diet 7 up or sprite without all the extra chemicals is an improvement over higher sodium, caffeine etc. you find in other diet soft drinks.

Best in Kosher Food : Dietetic!

Welcome to my new segment on the Best in Kosher Food: Diet Foods. I hope you find this information helpful in your quest to shed a few pounds this summer. As I mentioned earlier my wife and I have started on the weight watchers diet. This diet is all about the point system and how many points you can consume depends on your body weight. The key of course is to find great foods that are filling but low in points and for parents, something that's quick and easy. I think we really hit the jackpot on Guiltless Gourmet wraps! They come in 4 flavors: Mediterranean Spinach,California Veggie, Four Bean Chili & Black Bean Chipolte. These wraps have none or little cholesterol, low fat, high fiber and are organic and are about 5 points each. To make matters even better we got 2 for $3 on sale. These wraps may be hard to find and you may want to ask your supermarket to carry them. I've tried the spinach and California and they are really good. Stay tuned for more great dietetic foods.
