New Technology: Slowdown Stolen Cars Electronically?

It may sound like something out of sci fi but GM is releasing cars next year that will do just that. GM's On Star system would allow a cop to call in to request that they disable the stolen vehicle's accelerator. This would likely cut down on the amount of police deaths related to high speed car chases. It will be interesting to see how often this use will actually come into play. Worried about what might happen if you are the one running away from the law? Not to worry, according to the article unless the owner states it stolen it can't be slowed down.
