Rabbi Nissan Hakakian of the Sefardic Congregation Of South Monsey, lost his bid for a tax exemption. The State Supreme court ruled that since he is not a full time clergyman and his synagogue is used more as a residence than a house of prayer he must pay up! Taxes total $14,226. I can't begin to tell you how many people abuse parsonage tax exemption schools in a way that's over and above what is legal.
