The NYT reports that hundreds of British and Iraqi soldiers assaulted a police station in the southern city of Basra today, killing seven gunmen, rescuing 127 prisoners from what the British said was almost certain execution and ultimately reducing the facility to rubble.
This is one of most impressive displays of military action by the British since the invasion in 2003.The rescued prisoners showed signs of torture as the article explains that they had been held in conditions that a spokesman, Maj. Charlie Burbridge, described as “appalling". When you read stories like these it's a wonder that liberals care about how we treat their prisoners in secret prisons offshore. Do we really believe that they will play nice if we do? Kudos to the British!
