Another great Rabbi has passed on and we have lost yet another great scholar. Tuesday night Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Waldenberg also known as Tzitz Eliezer, after his major halachic work on complex Jewish laws usually of a medical nature, left this world at 89. He was one of the very first poskim to consider smoking, against Jewish law. Some of his rulings were controversial and not accepted by all:
One may not undergo plastic surgery merely to improve one's physical appearance, as 'charm is deceptive and external beauty is futile; only fear of G-d... is praiseworthy' [Proverbs 32].
