A Simple Jew has an excellent post on Jewish Music and Hashkafa. He questions whether the origins of music matters or not. He would also love to see more Heavy Metal guitar playing. The issue that rabbanim would have with that is they feel it leads to hefgairus as opposed to other (secular based) songs which don't. Just playing devil's advocate here.
