Should you pray for the welfare of Israeli soldiers?

This question was posed to Rabbi Ya'akov Ariel, chief rabbi of Ramat Gan. After the recent "humiliating and inhuman treatment of the residents of Gush Katif displayed by IDF soldiers in the context of the Disengagement" one can understand the reason for this question. His reply was to daven with even more kavanah (concentration, more ferver) so as to ask that the soldiers act with more compassion. He also suggested that the prayer be amended by taking out the sentence"and send blessing and success in all the work of their hands". As not all soldiers would be worthy of such a blessing.
