As -=Jew*SCHooL=- pointed out Dov Hikind is pushing to get (his name in the paper) legistlation passed that would relax the laws regarding racial profiling on subways. There is a great article(use bugmenot.com) written by a lib no less on this issue. The question becomes how to balance civil liberties and security. The truth of the matter is the more security you want the more liberty one has to give up (either that or spend tons of money on man power). We are already giving up some liberties without this issue, with a variety of police cameras that have been erected in a variety of public place such as parks etc. There is technology available if purchased, that would allow law enforcement to see right through your bag without touching it (of course we can't to spend monies for such equipment). The problem is the issue of racial profiling has tied the hands of our police force. They are afraid to do their job at times since they fear retaliation of being racist etc.. I think racial profiling may work but I don't see how you could possibly dream of passing legislation that would allow it. I think Mr. Hikind should work on passing laws that actually have a chance of being passed and would help the city: getting more funds from Washington to fight terrorism.
