Last night I attended a wedding of a friend of mine. It's rare that I'm attending one, since most of my friends are married at this point. This friend is also a musician and quite a busy one. As you can imagine all the people he has worked for and friends came to dance and wish him a mazal tov. The wedding featured an introduction of the Chosson and Kallah by the famous Jewish MC Nachum Seagal. The shadchan was none other than Shlomie Dachs. He was one of the many singers that night. We also heard the likes of Michoel Shnitzler (the chosson had played on his recordings) as well as Yaakov Young. Yaakov told me he's put the finishing touches on his album which is being produced by Yochi Briskman and arranged by no other than Yisroel Lamm (who else could possibly arrange a great album?). His album will be the only solo album that has songs written by Yitzchak Rosenthal , creator of Shalsheles. He believes this will assist him in putting a different spin on his album. He has been working on this album for at least 4 yrs. now. Some people were saying unless he recently started from scratch that his album will have a stale feel. The reason being that Jewish Music has changed drastically in the past 4-5 years. I'm not sure how much I would agree but I understand the argument. Needless to say Eli Gertsner actually sat down to play one song during the dinner set. The song didn't go over well at my table as one guy said annoyingly "another 3 chord song." He then started off a hora set with his song "kol hamisamayach" which I had never heard. At this point I had enough of all the extremely loud music and decided to take off. I had danced with the chosson, said mazal tov and was now officially yotza. It was fun catching up with some old friends but now I had to get my pepper spray and make my way back to my car (not a great neighborhood).
