As you may have heard Yaakov Shwekey is releasing his 4rth album. He is arguably the biggest name in Jewish music right now. He has also been able to consistently put out some hit tunes. With this latest release entitled "L'sheim Shomayim" he takes a more sophisticated turn, with songs like L'sheim Shomayim featuring edgy chord changes. You can hear samples of this latest work by clicking here. The album like Avraham Fried's features 13 songs. release date is set at Feb. 1st.

It's obvious he is trying to copy fried, songs like Ma Ma Ma ... 13 songs .. come on ... he will never be even close to Fried. Shwekey is the ultimate kvetcher. If I have to hear him sing Racheim or Shema Yisroel one more time I'm gonna choke.
imitating MBD is nothing new , that has been his game from day one
Anon...bottom line is he commands the highest fees in the industry..he is successful and that's the bottom line. I'm not his biggest fan but I can't deny the truth
It's criminal how much these guys charge. Especially him. I mean, if someone pays, thats their problem. But I would never spend $15,000 on just the wedding singer.
Chaim,
even if you were a multi millionaire
and money was no object and he's your favorite.
Sadly there are people who are far from multi millionaires who are paying those fees just to outdo the other guy who had Lipa or Avremel at THEIR simchas.
If I were a multimillionare I'd hire my niggunim CD idea people as a choir to sing at the wedding :-)
That would be pricey too Chaim...
btw trying to copy fried by singing some songs... no ofense dont you hear the differences in their voices, and heller he aint the one composing the songs you might as well say that the composer was trying to coppy whoever composed the fried song
if ur looking 4 bad to say duh u can find about anyone ...
and as far as my knowledge goes i dont think these singers live like millionairs not fried not shwekey or any of the jewish singers out their if they want to live and pay their bills and yeh i think they have to charge think of all the ppl involved in the making of one cd ( and ther families ) the y all need gelt u know
I just got Shwekey's album: "L"sheim Shamyim" yesterday.
I think that it's one of the best albums he's made so far.
There are some great songs on it & I'm sure that they'll become hits.
HOWEVER, you can't even try to compare him with the beloved Avraham Fried.
Avremel is indisputably 'The real King of Jewish music' and nobody will ever take overtake him.
But still, nice try Shwekey!
What's criminal is that the talented writer's songs get mangled by the overproduced 20 years late production and arrangement schtick that winds up on the CD's AND that they get ZERO royalties from the sales and performances which is against all industry rules and conventions. Many of these writers are living at or below the poverty level, while the better selling singers and producers rake it in. If a CD sells 20000 copies (a hit?) and it's split about $6 each between the production company and artist (minus production expenses which can hit $40K depending on how much is layered on it) there's still around $200K profit to go around of which the songwriter only gets a few hundred $ for the song. I would much rather have ASCAP or BMI do the Cheshbon on this here and now than have Shamayim do it on Yom Kippur.....
