The High Court of Justice overruled a decision of the Chief Rabbinate to give local rabbinate a say in whether to allow land owners to sell their land to non-jews (heter mechira). Needles to say this was a big victory to many farm owners who would stand to lose business. There are those that would view this as a showdown between the Zionists and Hariedim. However I'm sure there must be some haraidim who agree with heter michira. There is a lot of press on the shmita issue and I think it's important to look at both sides of the story.
