There has been a lot of talk about the recent ban in Israel over a Jewish Music concert. Today there is an article in the 5 towns Jewish Times by the editor. He gives some more information about the actual validity to the story as well as it's ramification to singers involved. In the article he mentions the idea that Shwekey who got the green light by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. According to the article there is a effort being organized to ban Shwekey from being hired in the 5 towns!

That was a terrible article. Why write an article that concludes with "We aren't smart enough to figure out what the gedolim have in mind, so don't question in. And besides, bad things exist in our community." If you were to accept that concerts are part of the problem, I can assure you that they are at most a symptom rather than the cause of social ills within the frum world. What percentage of the frum world actually attend these concerts? What is the correlation between shiduchim, divorce and concert attendance? If the concerts are somehow inappropriate, that is because people pay to see that sort of entertainment. People are used to the caliber of show found in the secular world-dancing, lights, modern musical styles, etc. Baring people from attending frum concerts will leave them searching out entertainment from other avenues. These rabanim are not PHDs and stop acting as such. The takanos of the last several years have shown us that the gedolim do not have their finger on the pulse of the Jewish world and they cheapen their opinions when they legislate in this manner. Why render an opinion that will ignored and at worst ridiculed.
