Shevach Meats and Glatt Emporium

There is no question that people are still reeling from the Shevach Meat scandal. Thousands of people lost thousands to tens of thousands of dollars both in food and having to kasher dishes ovens etc.. The latest scare in the 5 towns at Gourmet Glatt hasn't increased peoples faith in the local Kashruth authorities ability to monitor the supply chain of kosher meat and chicken. Many people I know have either stopped buying meat and chicken entirely or they only buy it sealed from the original processor (i.e. Empire or Rubashkin etc.). Hopefully we will see better safeguards put in place real soon to avoid these issues in the future.

The ironic thing is that for a long time, some Rebbeim have been saying not to buy in *sealed* packages (Empire, Rubashkins, Aarons) from regular grocery stores. And now this.

Why not in sealed packages? That's how we get kosher food on airlines.

The shipping is the place when things get mixed from what I understand.

Truckers can easily switch and mix.

Batya, If I knew, I'd tell you.

My cynical side says it has more to do with the economics, than with kashrut.
