What is Chulent?

Rochester Democrat and Chronicle has intersting article on the history of chulent. One of the usual questions is where does the name chulent come from? Although there are several answers the prevailing opinion seems to be that it's a compound word from the French chaud (warm) and lent (slow).

The folk etymology is that it is from Hebrew "shoalin," "cooked."
