JTA reports that Sephardic cantor Abraham Lopes Cardozo has passed at 91. Cantor Cardozo was known for his efforts to preserve the music of Spanish and Portugese Jews. He was born in Amsterdam and worked as a cantor and teacher at a Portugese congregation in Suriname, then a Dutch colony, thus escaping the Nazis.
