Minyan websites in a battle?

I am certainly an innocent bystander here. You may recall my post the ther other day regarding a website: minyanmaps.com. Well I have recieved an email from GoDaven.com. They have infromed me that they already have minyan maps available(which are more accurate)and it would seem that miyanmaps.com is just taking their idea. I guess we'll see how it plays out but for now you are best off going to GoDaven.com for any minyan infromation.

what's the difference? It shouldn't matter to them who got the idea first. Two of these sites is better than one. It means it will help twice as many people. I would have hoped that they were doing this to help people out, not fight over who thought of it first. What a shame.

In theory you are correct. However firstly if one is more accurate what's the point of having one that's not so accurate and one that is? Secondly I'm a very suspicious person and I'm wondering why they wanted to make something that already existed? It's not as if they are doing a better job per se. Perhaps they plan on selling advertising space? I have o idea at thispoint but I guess I'll see how it plays out.

Ya .. maybe it starts out not as good, but will get better. Competition is the best thing, that means each site will be forced to make better changes and updates and that only benefits the people who need to use their service.

Interesting point. I did notice an improvement that minyanmaps had made: if you list a zip code with no minyan it would go to the closest minyan to that zip code. I emailed this to GoDaven to see if they could do the same.

I'm not sure MinyanMaps knew about GoDaven.
