The Jewish Week disucsses paying for a seat for your high holiday services and membership etc.. For thos who can't afford to pay full price an orginization in LA has an interesting program called “Shekels from Heaven".
Every hour a member volunteers on a project to build the synagogue community or to improve the world through social justice work, a philanthropist contributes money to the congregation up to what the full membership fee for that person should be.
