Hurricane Wilma is not stopping this Synagogue from conducting services...

Yet... South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports on several different houses of worship that are staying open even with Wilma possibly heading their way. The article mentions the Chabad of South Broward in which one of the Rabbi's says "In Jewish law, when something is doubtful and something is definite, you stay with the definite," ...."You can't cancel a holiday." That's true but what about peoples lives? The article continues by saying they are not planning for the worst....why not?

He's quoting the well-known axiom of Bari Veshema - Bari Adif.

However, even a Safek Pikua'h Nefesh (possible saving of a life) pushes off Shabbat - all the more so, other holidays.

He may be making his decision based on a very low probability of life-threatening hurricane-force winds in his particular area. I don't know if that's accurate or not.
